"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up" -Pablo Picasso
I frequently seek to create an organic flow to my work, which is often accomplished by building upon the canvas, layering, carving and color blending. A desire for texture and tension, evident in my work, often drives me to mix mediums that might not otherwise be considered companions.
This new surreal body of work represents 2020-2021 and its effects on the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of humanity. In a year of protesting where I can't breathe leads to death, racial tension, the attempted thief of women's rights, and Mother Nature reaping havoc on the earth, one can only see doom earth. The body elongated and twisted represents the isolation of being quarantined. It also represents how humans on the planet have had to readjust and evolve in this new way of life.As a black woman in America, twisting, turning, bending, and adjusting our vision, our life and our performance are nothing new. We are and have always been adjustable. Therefore, with the crises of 2020-21, I started the new works through humor. Welcome to my world.
